The affected pet appears confused, lost, and anxious with an awkward head tilt and gait which often includes stumbling, weakness and falling down. They may lose interest in eating or stop eating completely, become excessively thirsty and experience sudden incontinence – both urinary and fecal. They may have sudden and extremely severe diarrhea. Substantial weight loss and muscle wasting. They may show loss of personality, loss of cognitive function, loss of sense of smell, sudden blindness, sudden deafness, skin lesions and severe itching. They may become extremely vocal or stop barking or meowing completely. They may exhibit a strange cough. As their fear and anxiety levels increase, they are prone to restlessness with panting and pacing and whining or crying, they may experience sleep disturbances and become clingy. As the side effects increase in severity the Librela affected dog and Solensia affected cat may appear extremely lethargic, with sudden hind end weakness or paralysis, tremors, and seizures.
Lab tests may show UTIs; increased blood urea nitrogen levels; sudden diagnosis of cancer.
The most commonly asked question is: 'Has anyone else seen this symptom or behavior following Librela injections?' The information below may provide you with insight about the most commonly reported side effects. Sharing this knowledge with a veterinary professional is a critical step in your pet's care. This website uses the EudraVigilance Veterinary Database of Suspected Adverse Drug Reaction Reports as the source of suspected adverse drug reactions (sADRs) for Librela. It is colloquially known as EVVet. The vast majority of these reports were filed by veterinarians and includes reports from countries in which Librela is on the market. To scan the data to see if your pet is experiencing side effects that have been reported, see the descriptions below.
There were 24,158 Animals affected in the 23,092 individual cases reported as of December 4, 2024. Keep in mind that only 1-10% of adverse events (side effects) are generally reported to regulatory agencies, thus it is reasonable to anticipate that the number of associated cases is likely to be far higher. With the exception of the Canadian Package Insert, Zoetis has neglected to inform vets and the public of significant suspected side effects, thus the percentage of reporting may well be <1%, as many vets continue to fail to connect the dots from the drug to the symptoms (Side effects with fewer than 10 reports are not included on this page at this time).
Data on Solensia side effects:
EVVet also collects adverse event reports on Solensia for cats and according to the data cats are experiencing the same side effects as dogs. View a list of Solensia side effects reported to the Food & Drug Administration of the U.S. here: FDA FOI Solensia Side Effects
The best way to access the data directly is through the interactive notebooks being published in d8abased by a group of volunteer scientists, making the data searchable and visible as well as analyzing Librela incident rates and half-life estimates using mathematical and statistical analysis in the absence of key data from the manufacturer: https://librela.d8abased.com
